So after a whole season of rain and flowing creeks at the lab (but no salamanders), I finally found my salamander and I wasn’t even looking for it at the time. =)
Turns out my parents are going to be repainting their house so in an effort to move everything away from the walls, my mom and I started moving planter boxes to the walkway. This was not exactly the most fun task (especially with a caffeine withdrawal headache) but not to worry, it would all be worth it in a few short minutes.
The moment of excitement came when my mom slid a heavy planter box off the brick and all of a sudden the smooth gleaming head and body of a salamander appeared from below. I shrieked in delight (I love sallymanders) and immediately went to pick it up. My mom grabbed the camera, took a couple of pictures of me with my new found friend and then I gently placed him back on the ground so he could climb back under the box.
All in all it was pretty cool. Guess I’ll have to help my mom out more often (especially when there are sallymanders involved). 😉
