Hiking with my mom in Castro Valley…

Around 8:30 this morning I received an e-mail from my mom saying that she was in town today.  Before I had even finished reading the e-mail I had dialed my mom to see if she was up for a hike with the dogs in Castro Valley.  =)

By 9:30 I was on the road with Sierra and Lotus, yes Lotus (I felt bad about always leaving her at home while Sierra and I go play), headed to see my mom and Little Girl.  Our plan was to leave my mom’s house in Castro Valley and hike through the residential areas until we reached the 10 Hills Trail across from Redwood Road.  From there we would drop down the Cameron Loop Trail to Lake Chabot and back around (~7 miles).

Since Sierra and Little Girl are predictable off-lead they got to run around while Lotus walked with my mom and me.

Lotus was so happy to be included on a hike. My mom seemed to enjoy walking her too.

Once we got to the paved trail at Lake Chabot we had to put Sierra and Little Girl back on lead.  Little Girl didn’t seem to mind but Sierra looked sulky.  What a spoiled muppy.  =P

Meemers liked walking all 3 dogs as it made her feel like she was the head of a sled dog team. Mush!... Mush! =)

On the way back to the house we took a different path home and encountered a swarm of BEES!!  Sweet!  =)

Oh what's this? A swarm of bees in a tree? I think I need a closer look...

Check it out, they're totally doing their "bee thing" in the trunk of this tree. And yes, I had to get very, VERY, close to get this picture. All the out of focus objects were bees flying around my head. Buzz, buzz.... 😉

About halfway through our hike the sun had come out and warmed things up quite a bit.  Meems was wearing a long sleeve shirt and warms up quickly like I do so once we finished the hike and my mom had a chance to change her shoes and cool off she offered to treat me to a frozen yogurt with fruit at Quickly in Castro Valley.  Yum!  =)

After that we headed out to Office Max and Walmart in Pleasanton to pick up some stuff for my mom.  By the time we were done it was time for my mom to get ready for a funeral at 4.  One of the ladies that attends a program for seniors that my mom leads for the Castro Valley Adult School passed away last week.  Although sad, death is a part of life and it sounds like the woman was well-liked by many and had lived a full life so at least there is comfort in that.  It’s nice that my mom was invited and is going to her funeral.  I’m sure that would have meant a lot to Bessie.  And selfishly that meant that my mom was in town so I got to spend some time with her which means a lot to me.  =)

Thanks for a great hike Meems. I had a great time and look forward to our next get-together. =)
